Lucky 7 and a Rickroll

This question has nothing to do with Rick Astley or Never Gonna Give You Up. I was just Rickrolled. Ironically, I was Rickrolled yesterday by a friend as well.

The answer/solution for the last question is up, too. And thankfully, no math for this one.

It was Monday morning when Shadow responded to a call at a local garage where a tragic accident had just occurred. One of the owners of the garage, Cam Overhead, had been crushed while working on a car. Apparently, the idling car accidentally went into gear and crushed him. The dead man’s partner, Sam Sham, was the only witness to the accident. Scattered about the scene were tools, oil rags, and a puddle of dirty oil. “I had just finished my coffee and was checking out the stock listings in the morning newspaper when I heard a scream and a loud crash,” explained Sam. “I ran out to the service area and found Cam pinned to the wall. I jumped in the car and backed it up, but I was too late. He was already dead.” Shadow looked at Sham and said, “From what I’ve seen, that story is a lie!” Why?

  1. There shouldn’t have been a crash, right? Because if there was one then Sham wouldn’t have been able to back up the car.

  2. First, a few things that bug me: cars typically don’t accidentally go into gear by themselves. Unless they’re haunted, of course. AFAIK, cars move too slowly to crush someone without the pedal being pressed. Too slow for a “loud” crash to occur.

Shadow stated that from what he SAW, the story was clearly a lie. What did he see? Well he saw oil rags, dirty oil, and tools. Clearly, the car’s oil was being changed. And you don’t want the car to be ON when you’re doing that. So how could it possibly have moved without someone behind the wheel?

Lastly, his name is SHAM. Sketchy.

  3. Who checks the stock listings in the newspaper anymore???

And there are no stock listings in the Monday morning newspapers.

  4. Hm, I was going to suggest that but I wasn’t sure when exactly the papers had stock listings. Also, I am posting this at 5:02 AM. Something is wrong with me.

  5. Children shouldn’t lie

  6. You do oil change from under the car, how do you get pinned to the wall if you’re under the car.

  7. I swear that this is from that card game Mind something. It’s most likely something to do with the stock listings (either from memory or the fact that something as random as stock listings is in the riddle) but I’m not into the market so I’ve got no idea.

  8. How does an idling car go into gear by itself. Not possible.
